about

“I am a songwriter. I write lots of songs. I’m also very musical…I love music…it’s a passion. I am also an actress. I’m in drama club and I had an audition just today.” Rodaba, a very busy seventh grader with a boundless thirst for art and expression is no stranger when it comes to writing songs. “I’ve written songs since I was very little, but they weren’t really good.” Initially writing about her own experiences, she eventually developed techniques for gathering new ideas. “Sometimes I write songs about how my friends are feeling, like I might not have had that issue with me but my friends have and I’d listen to theirs and have them talk to me about their feelings and I’d write them down.” After her teacher told her of the open call for lyric submissions to The Dick & Jane Project in the spring of 2012, she decided to enter. She submitted “Raindrops”, a dense set of lyrics of self exploration that some of her peers thought was just a song about rain. “No! It is not about rain, because…It’s not really about rain. It’s about being yourself and not letting others try to copy off of others. Basically I compared it to raindrops. When it rains you see raindrops coming down and you don’t quite think about every single one of them…they are all the same to you. And I compared that to people. Everyone isn’t the same. You don’t have to be like a raindrop, you have to be original.

lyrics

It’s time to find where you want to be.
It’s time to be who I want to be.
It’s time to find where you want to be.
It’s time to be who I want to be.
I'm not some stranger on the street.
A lot of people know me.
I’m not just another face.
It’s time for me to take my place.

Oh, it’s time to be me.
What I do, it’s all a mystery to you.
What I like, who I love,
you don’t know what I want to do.
I am not like those others.
No, I’m not another one of those…

Raindrops.
Raindrops.
Raindrops.
Raindrops.
Raindrops.
Raindrops.

It’s time to be who I want to be.
I’m fine with what I want to be.
It’s time to be who I want to be.
I’m fine with what I want to be.
I not some stranger on the street.
A lot of people know me.
I’m not just another face.
It’s time for me to take my place.

Oh, it’s time to be me.
What I do, it’s all a mystery to you.
What I like, who I love,
you don’t know what I want to do.
I am not like those others.
No, I’m not another one of those…

Raindrops.
Raindrops.
Raindrops.
Raindrops.
Raindrops.
Raindrops.

I tried to be me.
I tried to be strong.
But why don’t you see.
that it’s not that wrong?
I know that I’m original.
I show that I’m not pitiful
But you should know…

Oh, it’s time to be me.
What I do, it’s all a mystery to you.
What I like, who I love,
you don’t know what I want to do.
I am not like those others.
No, I’m not another one of those…
