about
Paige is an 8th grader with a passion for basketball and volleyball. Music plays a vital role in her life, often pumping her up before a game. She also believes that music can help people through some tough situations. “If you are being bullied or something, and you listen to music it can help you get through different situations. “ Paige also thinks music can be educational. In the spring of 2012 when her teacher approached her and told her of the Dick & Jane Projects call for writings, she knew just the piece to submit. “I kind of started it in 5th grade for a project we were doing. One of our options was we could write a song. So I wrote it then but I thought I would submit it to The Project. It was too short though, so I added a bunch of more stuff to it to jazz it up and make it longer.” With the lyrics now long enough, Paige submitted her song and soon it became a part of The Dick & Jane Project catalogue. Now speaking from experience, she has advice for other young writers looking to get their voice heard. “ Just really put yourself out there. You don’t know if you don’t try. If you just put a couple words together you don’t know what it could turn in to.
lyrics
Yo, yo listen up.
I’m gonna tell you ‘bout the process of photosynthesis.
I’m a tall green plant sitting in the sun,
absorbing nutrients and having fun!
You may think it’s boring,
you may think it’s lame,
but I’m a plant and that’s my name.
Now, how I got green that’s a story to tell.
It’s my little friend called chlorophyll.
Photosynthesis occurs in different types of algae,
and it also happens in many plants just like me.
Although this can happen in different ways,
in other species, some features are the same.
This process takes time.
It is also an equation.
But for it to happen,
you will need some hydration.
CO2, water, transferred with light,
add with sugar with oxygen
and it will be alright.
Bring me to life.
My leaves are long,
my roots are deep.
I grow below and underneath.
I am a plant and I’m cool like this
thanks to photosynthesis!
Photoautotrophs are able to synthesize food,
but only if they happen to be in a good mood.
They’re a group of organisms,
plants, bacteria, and algae are within em’.
Roots are oh so important too.
They have lots to do.
They absorb the water through the tubes,
along with different foods.
I get my energy from the sun!
As I said before, I’m still having fun!
Sugar oxygen is so sweet.
It’s the plant’s favorite treat.
When the sun hits the chloroplasts,
that’s the beginning of the process.
My leaves are long,
my roots are deep.
I grow below and underneath.
I am a plant and I’m cool like this
thanks to photosynthesis!
Correct me if I’m wrong,
because this is the end of the song.
