about
When Denny, Carly, and Alicia formed a songwriting team for The Dick & Jane Project they agreed on one element of their tune from the beginning: They didn’t want to write a love song. “The world has plenty of those”, they reasoned. Instead, they wanted a piece everyone could relate to and focus on that lonesome feeling everyone has sometimes when you just need someone to talk to. They even took extra care to exclude the gender of the song’s protagonist so more people could relate to it. Using Skype to discuss the ideas with their partnering band The First Street Heat (of Athens Ohio) they settled on a musical direction to reflect the introspective feel of the lyrics. Dutifully sticking to these instructions, the band returned with a song the girls loved.
lyrics
I was deep in my thoughts, thoughts, thoughts
when you looked at me my eyes were red
something about me you caught, caught, caught
I was running away from it
When we first met, met, met
you helped me stand on my two feet
you became my escape, escape, escape
you held out a hand and reached into my soul
and I realized the tears I cry
when you cross my mind
and I know you’ll always be with me
Even when I’m gone
Time is passing by
and I need you said I need you by my side
Because of you my eyes are open
I see the world so clearly you dragged me into
This silent conversation
My fears should become as real as you
The tears I cried
When you cross my mind
and I know you’ll always be with me
Even when I’m gone
Time is passing by
and I need you said I need you
by my side
You are my thoughts
You are my words
You are my memories
You are mine
You are my thoughts
You are my words
You are my memories
You are mine
Dragged me into the silent conversation
I have to fade away into this silent conversation
